Hydraulic Equipment Development Institute (HEDI) was established in 1994 by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), a Parastatal in the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST)
HEDI is one of the Engineering Infrastructural Development Institutes (EID-I) established by NASENI. Our activities as the name suggests revolves around research and development work in the field of Hydraulic / Pneumatic Equipment and Spares. Our watchword is "Appropriate Technology" to enable home grown technologies, which will translate to commercialization.
The law establishing HEDI is the decree 33 of 1982, which established the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure. HEDI undertakes Research and Development work in the area of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, fittings, materials and their production system. These equipment are basic to Agricuture, Water, Transportation, Energy and Construction Sectors of the economy. HEDI shall develop the technologies required by the hydraulic equipment industry and shall undertake research and development work into: (a) fluid-flow machinery and devices operating with water, oil, air, gas, corrosive fluids, etc. (b) hydraulic and pneumatic system accessories and fittings. (c) the testing and callibration of hydraulic equipment and devices. (d) the design, development and pilot production of hydraulic machinery, equipment, devices, accessories and fittings. (e) Undertake any other activities in connection with all or any of its functions.
Ongoing Projects One of the needs of HEDI is that of establishment of the necessary facilities to enable Research and Development. HEDI is also to carry out targeted research via value added reverse engineering on products, which are needed and market drive. Some are: (i) Centrifugal Pump Head (ii) Fuel Lift Pump (iii) Borehole Hand Pump (iv) Portable Manual Irrigation Pump (v) Tractor Hydraulic Pump (vi) Hydraulic Jack, Up to 5 Tons (vii) Wind Generator / Wind mill (viii) Anemometer |
